Panathinaikos Athens is innovating once more since after the latest evolvements with the Green agreements in Asia, Panathinaikos Athens (according to most Greek media) just added the first ever Chinese player to play in the Greek league. Shang Ping is officially the power forward which will be joining forces with Panathinaikos Athens for the season 2013-2014, actually opening the gate to the many Chinese players to try another market (the European) after the American (NBA and NCAA) which began a decade ago..
Ping Shang (205-F-84, college: Emporia St.) will join forces with the Greens in the next weeks. He is quite familiar with the American basketball as he spent four years of his basketball life in the States, first with Illinois Central in JUCO league and then in amore upgraded league with the Emporia Jersey in the NCAA II. The rumors and the media news bring the Chinese player as the replacement of the Lithuanian Maciulis even though we are talking for two different players as the Chinese is more of a power forward and less than a small forward like the Lithuanian was. Some other rumors wants this trial for Panathinaikos to be mostly a marketing step and less of a transfer which will add in the Greens as they are perceiving in the future with more and better evolvement in the Chinese basketball in general. Having in mind that no other clubs did this step the odds will be for the Greens no matter the specific transfer will, (at the end) drive to.... The Chinese PF in general is not something extra-ordinary as his numbers and general statistics proves so.. Some interesting rumors from the European market..
-After announcing Marco Crespi as the new head coach, Montepaschi Siena is targeting to built it's roster for the next season. It's a fact that the budget will be lower this year (4-5 million euros) and the administration will make it's moves in a specific economic framework. According to rumors, the Italian powerhouse is trying to acquire the Lithuanian-duo of Rimantas Kaukenas (192-SG-77, college: Seton Hall) and Jonas Maciulis (199-F/G-85) to enhance the "wing" spots with two experienced & hard-nosed players. Both are Montepaschi's ex-players. Meanwhile, David Moss has another year in his contract but the Italian champs intend to sell him. Moss will be the front runner for Olympiakos in the case Papanikolaou will leave for Barcelona. EA7 and the Catalans are also interested for Moss, who is probably the best perimeter defender in the European basketball nowadays. -Olympiakos is checking Alexis Ajinca (215-C-88, agency: Priority Sports) for the center position, but the French is not the first option (Paul Davis is, but Khimki asks a lot of money in order to sell him) as the European champs are looking for a fundamental post player to base their half court offense (and give a new dimension in the team's offensive game). Ajinca is a totally different player but his length, basketball IQ and passing ability are benefits that may tempt the Reds. -After making a clearly marketing agreement, acquiring Chinese Shang Ping (205-F-84, college: Emporia St.) , Panathinaikos is trying to complete it's backcourt and wants to invest in the 19-year old, Leuteris Bohoridis of Aris B.C.. Bohoridis is a very good raw material, considering a top prospect for the point guard spot due to his length and perception of the game. -Anadolu Efes is close to sign Kostas Vasileiadis in order to add more perimeter-firepower in the roster (they have already sign Scotty Hopson). The Turkish want to replace Stanko Barac with Ian Vougioukas (212-C/F-85, college: St.Louis) but that seems very difficult as both players have high-paid contacts. Žiūrėti...
Budivelnyk Kyiv (Superleague) added to their roster 40-year old Ukrainian ex-international forward Leonid Iailo (206-109kg-73). It is actually his comeback to Kyiv as he played here before. He had stopped his career a year ago but decided to return. He has played for the last four seasons at MBC Mykolaiv (Superleague). In 38 games he had 6.1ppg, 4.3rpg and 1.6apg in 2011/12 season.
The list of the past achievements is quite long as Iailo played in the final of Ukrainian Superleague for two years in a row (2005 and 2006). He was also voted Eurobasket.com Ukrainian Superleague All-Defensive Team back in 2005. Iailo was a member of Ukrainian Senior National Team between 1996 and 2003. He is quite experienced player. Iailo has played also professionally in Italy (Reggio C. Redel), Russia (Unics Kazan), Turkey (Darussafaka) and Ukraine (BC Kyiv and Azovmash). Pelicans moving closer to making an offer for Greg Oden.
Earlier this week, reports surfaced about the New Orleans Pelicans making an offer for center Greg Oden. According to those reports, the two-year deal would be for about $3 million per year, which would work nicely with the remaining space on the Pelicans' salary cap. John Reid reported that the Pelicans have not yet made an offer to Oden, but the team remains interested and in negotiations with Oden and his agent, Mike Conley, Sr. The two sides expected to meet on Friday evening in Indianapolis after Oden returned home from spending time in Las Vegas earlier in the week. ----------------------------------------------------- Rockets a favorite to land Marcus Camby According to reports, center Marcus Camby may have the Houston Rockets at the top of his list now that he is on the free agent market. Camby reached a buyout agreement with the Toronto Raptors earlier this week which will make him a free agent once he clears waivers on Sunday. Camby's agent, Rick Kaplan, told Houston reporter Mark Berman that he and his client will focus on Houston once Camby clears waivers based on his previous positive experience with the Rockets.
